A Message from the Principal:
We are proud of our API scores and of the knowledge that we are improving our instructional practices to meet all of our students academic needs.
· One of the areas we are working on is in offering additional help to students who are not at grade level standards in reading. Our Fall intervention groups will begin next week. Teachers have provided lists of students who could use extra help in reading. Most sessions will take place during the school day; however, we are working on offering before and after school sessions as well. If your child is recommended for these additional classes, you’ll be receiving a letter with more specific information.
My primary responsibility is insuring student safety. Please be sure to sign in at the office if you’re visiting or volunteering; leave your dogs at home; and follow all parking rules.
Thank you families who have signed up Frederiksen as your designated school! Display in the Hall!
We are excited to be working on our Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle program here at Fred. We are currently recycling paper, lunch trays, ink cartridges and cardboard at our school.
Look for more to come on this topic throughout this year.
Thankful Poster Contest:
Students are to create a poster that describes someone they are thankful for in their life. This could be someone who has made a difference for them in their life or someone who has done something wonderful for someone else. Please see attached details for guidelines for this contest. All posters will be displayed in Frederiksen’s Computer Lab. Posters are due to the office by 3:00pm Friday, November 17, 2006. Families are encouraged to support their child in participating in this contest at home!
WANTED- SCHOOL EVENT PICTURES: Please send in any extra pictures you have for our yearbook.
A NOTE FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE:
A special thank you to Chiropractor, Dr. Palomares for volunteering his time to give a Back Care Presentation to our 5th grade students. We are fortunate to have professionals in our community who are so giving of their time and care about the health of our students!!
It's a busy month for our PFC. New sweatshirts and sweatpants will be for sale through pre-order until Nov. 17. Order forms can be processed in lobby on 11/9, 11/14 and 11/16 before and after school, in the office or at the Scrip booth on Wednesdays. The PFC will sponsor a Warm Sock Drive beginning when we return from Thanksgiving Break, collecting new, warm socks for several local shelters and they are also working on their plans for Family Letter-Writing Night, which is scheduled for Nov. 30, along with our first Book Fair of the year!
Dublin Pride: Integrity In Action
Our focus for November is “Caring.” Everybody is special and unique and wonderful and starts out with clean and fresh “baby hearts”. Sometimes things happen to those hearts that cause us to build walls around them with ‘bricks’ that make sure we don’t get our feelings hurt. We will discuss ways that these brick walls because our balloons to leak out and hurt others with words or actions. But there are ways to ‘take down the bricks’ and find our true hearts’ by adding these new ‘tools’: giving Hugs, Appreciations/ Acknowledgements, sharing Laughter and Smiles, and being Respectful and Responsible to our ‘toolbox’ of “I” message, Clean Up, and Stop and Breath. Everybody practice all of your tools at home, in your neighborhood, and especially at school to make a school community of True Hearts!
November 16, 7-9 pm at Wells Middle School there is a great workshop for parents. This one is How to Overcome the Homework Battle. It is a great opportunity for parents of students at all grade levels to get information on how to manage homework.
The second in this Parent University is Teen Stress, Depression and Suicide Prevention. The date is November 30, at Fallon Middle School. Should be a very interesting and informative workshop.
The third presentation is My Child's Self Esteem. The featured speaker is George Papageorge. This presentation is January 18 at Wells Middle School.
